The Heritage of India tour itinerary offers an exhilarating journey through some of India’s most fascinating destinations, providing a glimpse into the country’s rich heritage. Explore the western terrain of India and marvel at some of the country’s most spectacular monuments and forts. Starting at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai, the train travels through western India, including the renowned Ajanta Caves, and concludes this princely saga in the colonial city of Delhi—a kaleidoscope of culture and architecture.

Day 1 – Mumbai
Welcome to Mumbai. Arrive at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and transfer to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway Station. Board the Maharajas’ Express, which will depart for Ajanta.
Dinner and overnight onboard the luxurious Maharajas’ Express.

Day 2 – Udaipur
Enjoy breakfast onboard as the train arrives in Udaipur. Upon arrival, take a boat ride on Lake Pichola and visit the City Palace and Crystal Gallery.
Udaipur, known as the City of Lakes, is a gem of Rajasthan. The City Palace, commissioned in 1559, is a major attraction renowned for its splendor.
Have lunch at the Sarkar Hall of Fateh Prakash Palace or Jagmandir Palace. Later, choose between returning to the luxury train, rejuvenating at a five-star hotel, or a private shopping tour. If time permits, attend a Sound and Light Show.
Dinner and overnight onboard. The train departs for Jodhpur.

Day 3 – Jodhpur
Upon arrival in Jodhpur, enjoy a leisurely morning, a visit to the Bishnoi Village (offering a glimpse of Rajasthan’s rural culture), or rejuvenate at a five-star hotel.
Return to the train for lunch, then visit Mehrangarh Fort, followed by a stroll through the Old Clock Tower Market. Other options include a visit to Umaid Bhawan Museum, Jaswant Thada, or a private shopping tour.
Mehrangarh Fort, one of India’s largest and oldest forts, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site offering stunning views of the city. Jaswant Thada, a marble cenotaph, and the architectural marvel of Umaid Bhawan Palace are also highlights.
Later, enjoy a royal cocktail dinner, fireworks, and a cultural dance performance at Hanwant Mahal. Return to the train for overnight. Next stop: Bikaner.

Day 4 – Bikaner
After breakfast onboard, choose to relax on the train or visit the Lalgarh Museum or Deshnok Temple.
Return to the train for lunch, then proceed to Junagarh Fort. Built between 1589 and 1594, it houses temples, palaces, and pavilions spread over 5.28 hectares.
Later, head to the sand dunes for “Sundowners.” En route, enjoy tea at Gajner Palace.
Return to the train for overnight. The Maharajas’ Express departs for Jaipur.

Day 5 – Jaipur
Arrive in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, also known as the Pink City. Visit the Amer Fort (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), followed by a visit to the City Palace or Jal Mahal. Participate in activities with elephants, including rides, feeding, or painting.
After lunch, choose between returning to the train, rejuvenating at a spa, shopping, golfing at Rambagh Golf Club, or visiting the Jantar Mantar and City Palace.
Dinner and overnight onboard the train.

Day 6 – Ranthambhore / Fatehpur Sikri
After breakfast onboard, enjoy an exciting safari at Ranthambhore National Park, renowned for its tiger population.
Return to the train and head to Fatehpur Sikri. After lunch onboard, explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site, a historic city built by Mughal Emperor Akbar.
In the evening, return to the train for an “Indian Night” with dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7 – Agra / Delhi
Start your day with a visit to the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built over 22 years, the Taj Mahal reflects Shah Jahan’s undying love for his wife.
Enjoy a champagne breakfast at Taj Khema before returning to the Maharajas’ Express.
The train departs for Delhi. After lunch onboard, disembark and bid farewell to the Maharajas’ Express staff.
